2024 - EV charging at Kennet Centre car park

We're excited to announce the launch of new Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points at the Kennet Centre Multi Storey Car Park in Newbury!

Starting from October, drivers can now charge their EVs using two dedicated public charging bays located on the top floor. There are two 22kW sockets in the bays that sit alongside spaces for the Council's fleet vehicles and the West Berkshire Car Club's EV, operated by Enterprise.

This installation marks the first of many EV charge points being rolled out at Council-owned sites, supporting the growing demand for electric vehicle charging across the district.

Councillor Stuart Gourley, Executive Member for Environment and Highways at West Berkshire Council, commented:

"These new chargers are a major step in promoting low-carbon travel within our community. We're proud to support the car club and it's great to see better charging facilities for the Council's EV fleet. I want to thank our dedicated teams, especially the Car Parks team, for making this possible. This is another step forward in improving our charging and our parking facilities across West Berkshire"

Ian Martinez, Principal Parking Officer at West Berkshire Council, added:

"We're pleased to provide charging facilities for EV car users. This is part of our ongoing effort to install chargers in most of our car parks as we all work together towards achieving net zero by 2030."

Users will soon be able to make contactless payments via debit or credit card with the cost for using the 22kW charge points at 44p per kWh. In the meantime, payments can be made through the Evolt Network mobile app, available for download on:

Further EV charge points have already been installed in Hungerford Church Street Car Park and we are now waiting on the grid connection and energy supply contract before going live.
