Reporting benefit fraud

How and where to report Housing Benefit or Council Tax/Council Tax Reduction fraud.

Housing Benefit Fraud

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are responsible for investigating any allegations relating to Housing Benefit fraud.

You can report Housing Benefit fraud anonymously on the GOV.UK website, or through the National Benefit Fraud Hotline (NBFH).

You can read more about benefit fraud on GOV.UK.

Council Tax and Council Tax Reduction Fraud

We take fraud seriously and will investigate allegations relating to Council Tax and/or Council Tax Reduction fraud. These allegations could come from members of the public, officers and members of the council or other government departments.

If you suspect someone is claiming a Council Tax reduction, discount or exemption that they are not entitled to, please let us know. You can remain anonymous, although it would be helpful to take your name and phone number in case we need more information at a later date. Any information that you provide will remain strictly confidential and we will not give your name to anyone else.

Please use our secure, confidential online form, or contact the Council Tax Team.

If you're currently receiving Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction, discount or exemption, it's important that you tell us about any changes in your circumstances that could mean you are no longer entitled.

If you are currently receiving Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction, please let the Benefits Team know about any change of circumstances.

If you are receiving Council Tax discounts or an exemption and your circumstances, please let the Council Tax team know.
