Community Education Fund
Education and Skills Funding Agency, European Social Fund and Ofsted Good Provider joint logos

The Community Education Fund (CEF) provides funding for specific projects, courses or research that focus on widening participation in education for adults aged 19 plus and families living and working in West Berkshire.

The Fund is open to learning and training providers, including:

  • voluntary organisations
  • housing associations
  • community groups
  • children's centres
  • schools and colleges
  • training companies
  • local authority services

Community education funding supports the delivery of both accredited and non-accredited learning programmes in accordance with the Adult Skills Fund.

Accredited provision relates to courses that lead to qualifications with particular focus on adults (19 plus) without level 2 qualifications who are unemployed and on active benefits.

Non-accredited provision are non-formal courses designed to support adults to re-connect with learning, gain new skills, improve health and wellbeing, access employment, progress to accredited courses, develop local communities or support their children's learning and development.

The CEF is open at set times throughout the academic year.

Training and Continuing Professional Development Opportunities

Community learning tutors and contracted providers are expected to complete training in adult safeguarding and PREVENT channel awareness.

The Education and Training Foundation provides a range of online courses to support tutors and providers in the delivery of adult and family learning within the further education sector.

There are a number of other continuing professional development opportunities available to support the development of resources and sharing good practice. We host an annual tutor forum in November of each year. The forum focuses on key training needs and sector requirements in preparation for the new academic year. To find out more information or to apply for a place on the forum, please contact our Community Learning Team.

The Learning at Work Institute provides a number of community learning resources and case studies to support course planning and delivery.
