Resident parking permit conditions of issue

Conditions of use

(a)  All applications must be made through MiPermit.

(b)  All applications will require your unique property reference number. This can be obtained from the Council Tax Team.

(c) You must reside at the address you have applied for.

(d)  The vehicle must be registered (V5C document and insurance) to the address applied for. If you have a Motability vehicle, you will be required to provide your Motability insurance document. Please note, if you have a company-leased vehicle, you may be required to provide proof. If you have a Motability vehicle, you will be required to provide your Motability insurance document.

(e) The permit remains the property of the council. If you move or no longer have use of the vehicle, then the permit must be cancelled immediately.

(f)  If the council has reasonable grounds to believe that the conditions of use of the permit have been abused, the council reserves the right to cancel the permit.  The council will notify you of its decision in writing to the address given at the time of application.

(g)  The vehicle must be no more than 5.3 metres long and/or 2.25 metres in height. The vehicle must be in a road-worthy condition and display a valid road fund licence.

(h)   You must obey the law relating to parking and obstruction on the public highway. The permit is valid only within the area designated to resident permit parking. Any penalty charge notices incurred are the responsibility of the recipient and all enquiries concerning them should be directed to the Council's Parking Service: the contact details are shown on the obverse face of the penalty charge notice.

There are some exceptions to these conditions:

  • If you do not drive and are over 60 years of age or you are registered disabled and have family or health visitors who need to visit regularly, you may apply for a special permit. This permit should be retained by you and displayed on the vehicle whilst these visitors are parked in the area and returned to you before they leave. Please note, there must be no vehicles registered at the property to be able to apply for a special permit.
  • If you are having work done and the workers need to park their vehicles, you should issue their vehicle with a visitors' permit. If they need access to their vehicle to complete the works, you will need to apply for a parking suspension.
  • Suspensions will also be issued for special events such as removals or funerals.
  • Enquires and applications must be made in advance giving as much notice as possible.
  • The council may suspend the resident parking bays to enable highway works to be carried out.
