Shaw House - West Berkshire Register Office

Our rooms are located at Shaw House, a 16^th century building with an abundance of character and set in beautiful grounds. We have three rooms available.

Register Office

Our Register Office is for just the two of you, plus your two witnesses and suits people who want a small, personal ceremony. Or perhaps you have chosen to have a larger celebration elsewhere, at an alternative venue without the legalities. In such circumstances you may wish to take advantage of our Wedding Packages, for which our Register Office is ideal. In this room our registrars will conduct a basic ceremony involving mainly the legalities, but you will have the opportunity to exchange rings, should you wish to do so.

Ceremony Room

Our Ceremony Room accommodates up to 46 guests and gives you the opportunity to have a more detailed ceremony, involving music, extended vows, readings and personal vows. This room is available on Fridays and Saturdays*. Of course, how much or how little you choose to include is largely up to you.

The Great Hall

The Great Hall was licensed in 2023 and is a charming room which benefits from a longer aisle and capacity for up to 100 guests. Again, we will tailor your extended ceremony to befit your preferences and couples choosing this room will also have the option of booking a drinks reception, to follow immediately afterwards. The room is available on Saturdays at 3pm* and is the perfect choice for couples wanting a larger gathering.

Once you have paid your ceremony fees we will send you an information pack, which covers everything you will need to know about your special day and includes a checklist of options and preferences for you to complete. If required, our registration team can talk you through your options and answer any questions you may have.

Optional Extras

Celebratory Certificate and Box

We have some elegant celebratory certificates which can be presented to you on the day of your ceremony. These go beautifully with our certificate boxes, which are in a durable white finish with a magnetic close. These cost £10. If you would like to purchase these, you can call us on 01635 279230 and order over the phone, paying by debit or credit card.

We will bring the certificate and box with us on the day and present it to you at the end of the ceremony. This will be a good photo opportunity as you are no longer presented with the legal certificate on the day.

You can view these at the Register Office. Pop in anytime we are open and we'll be happy to show one to you.

Chair Decorations

For those of you getting married in The Great Hall at Shaw House, you will have the opportunity to add decorations to your chairs. These are optional extras and complement the room wonderfully. They are supplied at a cost of just £1 per pair and, if chosen, they will be added prior to your ceremony, adding that finishing touch to the room, with no extra work for yourself.
