The Virtual School: attachment and trauma training

Information for professionals about our Virtual School training offer, which can help a range of adults to support vulnerable children in schools.

West Berkshire Virtual School wants all our local and host schools to be trauma-informed schools, capable of supporting the needs and vulnerabilities of our children.

Trauma-informed practice in schools

Trauma-informed practice refers to an approach that acknowledges the prevalence of trauma in individuals' lives and therefore seeks to create safe and supportive spaces. By adopting trauma informed practices, schools can promote resilience, understanding, and empowerment among students.

According to research, around 50% of children and adolescents in the UK will have gone through traumatic experiences or unfavourable situations. These may have a long-lasting effect on their emotional, social, and cognitive growth. To help pupils recover, develop, and realise their full potential, it is crucial to identify traumatic stress and respond to it appropriately.

We offer Virtual School training on attachment and trauma, and how this impacts on a child's experiences of school. This can be delivered flexibly to meet the needs of your staff. This can be funded by Pupil Premium Plus grants.
