Recycling collections

Find out what you can recycle from the kerbside.

We collect recycling every fortnight.

To ensure collection, your recycling boxes and bag need to be presented ready for collection by 6am on your recycling collection day. If you're unsure which day your recycling is collected, click Find Your Next Collection Day

Please be considerate to neighbours by returning your containers to your property as soon as possible after collection.

What can I recycle?

Each household is provided with two green recycling boxes and a reusable bag.

You can recycle paper and card in one box including:

  • newspaper
  • junk mail
  • magazines/catalogues
  • cardboard tubes
  • envelopes
  • egg boxes
  • cardboard boxes/packaging (cardboard must be flattened and no bigger than 85cm x 45cm)
  • greeting cards and wrapping paper (no glitter or foil)

You can recycle glass in one box including:

  • glass bottles
  • glass jars

Please make sure jars are rinsed through to remove food residue. Lids can be left on glass bottles and jars.

As a general rule, if your plastic waste is bottle-shaped, it can go in the bag for recycling. You can recycle all your plastic bottles (please leave bottle tops unscrewed*), aerosols, drink cans and food tins in your recycling bag including:

  • milk bottles
  • drink bottles
  • shampoo/conditioner/shower gel bottles
  • cleaning bottles
  • food tins
  • drink cans
  • aerosols (except those with an orange and black cross)

*Loose plastic bottle lids can also be placed in the recycling bag.

Textiles/clothing can be left out in a clear/white sack labelled 'textiles' next to your green boxes for collection. We do not provide sacks for this.

Put your used household batteries in a clear bag and place them on top of your black wheelie bin ready to be collected on your relevant collection day. Batteries we collect are: D, C, AA, AAA, AAAA (1.5-volt), A23 (12-volt), PP3 (9-volt), CR2032 (3-volt), and LR44 (1.5-volt). We also collect hearing aid batteries as long as they are removed from the device.

You can find a full list of what you can and cannot recycle Icon for pdf on our Recycling Leaflet [2MB] .

What if my recycling has not been collected?

If there's an issue with your items, you will have been left a note explaining the problem.

Reasons might include:

  • large cardboard - cardboard must be flattened and no bigger than 85cm x 45cm
  • textiles - please put your textiles in a clear sack or labelled bag (no black sacks or charity bags) - textiles should be placed next to your green boxes and bag
  • wrong type of plastic - we only accept plastic bottles in your green sack (Find out about recycling additional plastics here)
  • mixing your recycling materials - please separate the materials into the right containers
  • shredded paper - unfortunately this cannot be recycled because it jams the machinery; however, it can be composted or reused for animal bedding (or alternatively put in your black bin)

As long as the problem has been sorted out, your recycling will then be taken on your next recycling collection day.

If you have not been left a note, occasionally we experience issues with roadworks, obstructing vehicles and flooding. If your recycling has not been collected, please check our Waste and Recycling Collection Updates which we update daily.
