Council Management Structure

The council's Chief Executive Officer is the Head of Paid Service and is supported by three Executive Directors as part of the Senior Management Team.

Employees who meet the criteria are automatically enrolled onto the  local government pension scheme (LGPS) [394KB] .

The Leader of the Council

The Leader of the Council is the most senior member of the Council, and is elected at the first Council meeting following a District Election to serve for a four year term. 

Their role is to ensure that the decision-making business of the Council runs efficiently and effectively. The Leader also heads the largest political group represented on the Council.

The role of the Leader is different to that of the Chief Executive Officer, who is an Officer, not a political figure, and is responsible for the day to day running of council services. The Leader's function also differs to that of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Council, who are Councillors but have non-political civic and ceremonial roles.
