New electric vehicle charging points available at Shaw House

Brand-new electric vehicle (EV) charge points have been installed at the historic Shaw House car park in Newbury.

The charge points allow visitors with electric vehicles to now recharge at two dedicated public charging bays conveniently located in the adjacent car park. These bays feature 7kW charging points, catering to the growing demand for sustainable travel options.

This installation follows closely on the heels of new chargers recently activated at the Kennet Centre multi-storey car park. It's part of our initiative to expand EV charging infrastructure across council-owned sites, supporting the transition to cleaner, greener travel throughout the district.

Councillor Stuart Gourley, Executive Member for Environment and Highways at West Berkshire Council, shared his enthusiasm:

"These new chargers are a major step in promoting low-carbon travel within our community. We're keen to support our residents and visitors in this way, and I want to thank our dedicated teams, including the support from staff at Shaw House, for making this possible."

Nik Stewart, Shaw House Manager, added: "We're delighted to offer this service to our visitors with electric vehicles, whether they're here for weddings, meetings, or other events.

"Providing these facilities aligns perfectly with our goal of enhancing the visitor experience while supporting sustainability."

Users can now enjoy the convenience of contactless payments via debit and credit cards. Payments can also be made through the Evolt Network mobile app, which is available for download on Apple or Android. The cost to use the 7kW charge points is 44p per kWh.
